Iconography

Art direction is directing the composition of a set/location to make as much of in context with the mood as possible. In art direction, minute details matter and can make a huge difference if noticed by the audience.

Iconography refers to the specific items of the art direction that either take the story ahead or have a relevance in conveying something about the actor/situation.

In my opening sequence, when she receives the image from the unknown number indicating that he is behind her right now, it shows that she is in trouble/trapped and this is what is going to take the story forward.

location recci

The story takes place at Shreya's house and so I took into consideration three house locations. Most of the scenes are in the room and near the door.
Location 1-

location 2-

location 3-

I have chosen location 3 due its availability at all times and huge space around the house for me to work in. It fits the upper middle class group of Shreya.

Hair and makeup references

For my opening sequence, I want my protagonist to have heavy makeup but not entirely so it is clear that she has come home after the party has ended. The hair needs to be a bit messy and the makeup needs to be a bit worn off for a more realistic view.
The makeup should definitely include a dark shade of lipstick to go with her black jumpsuit. A glittery eye makeup would complement her big eyes. Something like this-

"just came back from a wild party" kinda look. She loves to dance and that should be seen through her hair too. For the hair I want a messy hair look, something like this-

Mood board for opening sequence

The first picture of a stalker in a hoodie standing behind the girl who is Shreya, in this case. My last scene will look something like this. Ending with the stalker standing behind her.
The second picture is of the stalker looking at the women( Shreya) entering her house as in my opening sequence, the bell rings few seconds after she enters, indicating someone was following or waiting for her to reach home.
There are two pictures, one of Shreya in a black jumpsuit and one of the stalker in his grey hoodie. These are the clothes that they will wear during the shoot.
The picture of the silver gift boxes are how Shreya receives the message from the stalker in the opening sequence.

All these pictures summarise my opening sequence.

Mood board for Shreya

The first image is of her fashion style which is similar to the one in the opening sequence. It shows that she likes to follow the trend and has an elegant flair to her everyday style.
The second image shows that she likes to socialise and has many friends. Her favourite thing to do is spend time with her best friends.
The third image shows her at a party. She loves dancing and going out.
Fourth image shows her makeup style when she is going out and is similar to the one in the opening sequence.
The last image is of her studying. She makes sure that she removes time to study and get good enough grades to keep her family happy.

my colour theory

For my opening sequence I want to mainly focus on BLACK and WHITE.
I want the black to represent danger, unsafe ,mystery and the stalker but the white to show comfort and safety.
When she enters her house its dark, till the time she reaches her safe place, her room. Her room is bright and familiar but when the stalker invades her safe place, it starts fading into a darker tone.
The reason why she is wearing black is because it is a common colour for a night out and to show more contrast with her skin colour and clothes.
The silver boxes seem appealing but are misleading as it opens to a threat.
The dark colours at the start and end help make it look more thrilling and horror.

THE TITLE

I had to research a lot in order to find a title for my film that I would actually be happy with.
My opening sequence is a thriller/mystery genre and so I first decided to search other similar genres films to find some inspiration.
Next, I searched a few words related to my narrative. Such as trapped, mine, away, puzzle, clues, pyshco, HIS, evil, obsession and etc. I further searched their synonyms to see if there's a better and more interesting word related to this.
I did this because I loved the titles, Insidious, oculus and conjuring. I needed something like this but I couldn't find anything through google or other existing movies so I decided to check Wattpad. Wattpad is an app where anyone can write stories or read other people's stories. This allows a large variety of people to express themselves and gives a huge choice for readers. I scanned the stories where I put the tag- stalker, to see related stories. The names were exactly what I was looking for.
One word in particular caught my eye. 'UNHINGED'.
The word means - Mentally unbalanced; deranged
It is the perfect word for my stalker and I knew I had to use it!

So I present you the name of may film

UNHINGED
